What to do in Suffolk in April

There are lambs in the field, the daffodils are out and I can walk the dog wearing just a cardi- spring is on the way! Make the most of the lengthening days with this guide to what to do in Suffolk this April. Easter events, spring walks, workshops and country shows, there’s so much to enjoy!

6th April – Wild Saturdays: Night Safari

Experience the dark side of Brandon Country Park and discover astronomy and wildlife on this journey through the Park.

6th-7th April – 95th Rifles Battle of Waterloo at Ickworth House, Park and Gardens

Ickworth will host a weekend of historical re-enactments and workshops. Children can get involved with drill workshops and living history demonstrations. Please be aware that there will be cannon and gun fire.

6th April – Joanna Eden in Concert at Orford

If you like the music of Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Kate Bush, come along to see Joanna Eden’s performance at St Bartholomew’s Church in Orford. The concert is to raise funds for the Thomas Marshall Education Fund that supports secondary and tertiary education in Mozambique.
Joanna has supported world-class artists including Jamie Cullum, Ronan Keating and the Blockheads, as well as being the vocal mentor to Sam Smith.
Doors and bar open at 7.00 pm with a support act playing from 7.30 pm before Joanna takes over from 8.00 pm.

10th April – Heather Small at The Apex

Heather Small, formerly from M People, has had a number of top hits with tracks such as ‘Moving On Up,’ ‘One Night in Heaven’ and ‘Search For The Hero’. Heather will perform at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds this month.

13th April – Spring Forage at Nowton Park

Learn how to forage for your own food during this wild food course. You will be taught how to identify and pick flowers, roots and seasonal greens. Collect what you find and then cook over an open fire.

13th April – ETO: Family Opera – Paradise Planet at Snape Maltings

This interactive opera for children uses song and live music to tell the tale of humans who live on the waves and the animals that live beneath them. The opera celebrates the power of the ocean, whilst exploring the ideas of the problems facing our planet and the creatures that inhabit it.

17th & 18th April – Easter Wreath Workshop

Learn how to make a beautiful Easter Wreath full of spring blooms. The workshop is at Suffolk Food Hall from 10am-12pm and costs £50.

18th – 24th April – Swell, Art Exhibition by Danielle Taylor

Head to the Garage Gallery in Aldeburgh to see a solo exhibition by local artist Danielle Taylor. Her semi-abstract paintings using oil and acrylic, bitumen and shellac capture unspoken moments and emotions. Read my interview with Danielle on the blog soon.

20th – 21st April – Woodbridge Mind, Body, Spirit Festival

The Community Hall in Woodbridge will host the 19thannual Mind, Body, Spirit Festival. There will be over 40 stands with many new exhibitors for this year with spiritual gifts, crystals, jewellery, psychics, mediums and healers attending. The weekend will include workshops, talks and demonstrations including ‘How to clean your Chi’. Take part in taster treatments, readings and meditations.

20th April – Fram Makers Market

Come along and shop local at the Fram Makers Market. If you’re looking for unique gifts or a little treat for yourself, have a browse! There will be prints, jewellery, candles, macramé, ceramics, embroidery and more. The event will run from 10am-3pm at the Framlingham Unitarian Meeting House.

27th-28th April – The East Anglian Game & Country Fair

The Euston Estate will be hosting The East Anglian Game & Country Fair showcasing countryside activities, stallholders, a cookery theatre and children’s workshops.

27th April – Instagram for Beginners Workshop & Instagram for Business Workshop

Join photographer Andy Greenacre and I for two Instagram workshops at DanceEast this month.
The first will be Instagram for Business from 10am-12pm where we will focus on reaching your target customer, researching hashtags, scheduling content and analysing your statistics. Andy will show you how to create high quality Instagram content on your phone using hands-on flat-lay practise.

Instagram for Beginners will be from 1:30pm-3:30pm and cover the basics of the ‘gram. Learn how to build you following, why you should be focusing on engagement over followers and how to research the right hashtags for you.
