We’ve put together a list of the top dates for your diary in 2016 with some of the best things to do, places to go and things to see in Suffolk this year….

Latitude Festival 2016

One of the biggest summer events in our county, Latitude draws the festival crowd with its mix of big names and indie groups. Although it often causes moans about traffic from us Suffolk natives, we have to admit that it has done wonders for Suffolk’s street cred helping us veer away from the ‘country-bumpkin’ stereotype and more to be viewed as the cultural county we really are.

Back for the eleventh year (that makes me feel old, I remember going to the first ever festival!), we won’t know the line-up for another few months, but it’s bound to cause a rumour mill of whether any secret gigs will happen again this year.

Put in your diary: Thursday 14th – Sunday 17th July.
Even if you’re not attending the festival you’ll need the dates in the diary so you can avoid the A12 that day!

The Suffolk Show 2016

Another big date in the Suffolk calendar, all Suffolk residents will have fond memories of going to The Suffolk Show as a child and seeing all the farm livestock on display, the farm machinery and food and drink stalls.

Put in your diary: Wednesday 1st – Thursday 2nd June.

East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival

One of the largest charity dragon boat races in the country, why not sign up a team from your work place to compete to raise money for the East Coast Hospice. With over 5,000 spectators and a range of fun waterside entertainment, whether you take part of watch from the banks of Oulton Broad, this will be a great day out to support the local community.

Put in your diary: Sunday 22nd May.

Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival

If you haven’t visited the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival before, just a heads up, it’s actually held in Snape. A beautiful setting, right next to the River Alde, join over 90 local food and drink producers from around the county at Snape Maltings for the chance to taste and buy their delicious wares. Watch mouth-watering demonstrations from professional chefs and gain some tips from the experts.

While you’re there, why not explore all Snape Maltings has to offer, from clothes and interior shops to brilliant restaurants, the onsite concert hall and fabulous views over the river and beyond.

Put in the diary: Saturday 24th – 25th September.

Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre

I’m sure none of you want to even consider Christmas as we’re only now beginning January, however when talking about the year ahead, we can’t help but mention the wonderful winter fayre in Bury St Edmunds. Always packed out, the Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre features over 300 stalls for you to shop to your hearts content. I won’t bang on about Christmas as I’m sure you’re totally over it, but make sure you put this in the diary so you don’t forget come November!

Put in the diary: Thursday 24th Sunday -27th November
