Ipswich’s new independent bookshop, Dial Lane Books

Dial Lane Books is the new independent bookshop that has recently opened in the Ipswich Town Centre, and it’s also the only independent bookshop in Ipswich!

After a successful launch party on the 28th February, the shop opened for its first day of trading on the 3rd March.

The bookshop has been a lifelong dream for owner Andrew Marsh. He wanted to offer an alternative to the bigger chain bookstores and sell books by lesser known writers and publishers. This gives new and upcoming authors a platform and a way to give all authors a chance to shine.

Dial Lane Books is a Lonely Planet Guide stockist and there is a section of Lonely Planet travel guides. The store has a wide variety of books on different subjects including art, architecture, photography, classic novels, contemporary novels, cooking and many more.

Chloe visited on the day after it opened and immediately felt comfortable in the store. The shelves are beautifully laid out with an eye-catching aesthetic. This cosy book lover paradise has plants (grown by Andrew himself), quirky decor pieces and the most wonderful children’s section. The bespoke light up Ampersand decor piece was the first thing that caught Chloe’s eye as she walked into the shop.

The children’s section is perfect for taking little ones to find a new book.  It is features the most amazing artwork on the wall, created by local artist @bennys_yard on instagram. You can also purchase pieces of artwork by Benny’s Yard in store. It’s great to see local businesses supporting each other in this way!

The children’s selection includes a wide range of children’s books from the classics such as Little Women and The Tiger who came to Tea and many new titles.

Keep an eye out on the book store’s social media for future events that they are hosting. So far they have hosted two very popular book signings with local authors Sophie Green and Beryl Brown and plan to host many more.
