Christmas at the Cosy Club

Celebrating Christmas with friends and fellow Suffolk bloggers

Testing out the Cosy Club’s Christmas menu; it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it!

I LOVE Christmas. I love the magic, the time spent with family and friends, and of course, the food! So, I was very excited when I was kindly invited to the Cosy Club in Ipswich to try out the Christmas menu along with a group of blogging buddies!

If you haven’t ventured inside The Cosy Club in the Buttermarket in Ipswich yet, then I’ll try to describe it for you. Part 1920’s speakeasy, part stately manor, the Club is quirky and eclectic with mix match chairs, floral wallpaper, chandeliers, oil paintings and a wood carved wall. It’s completely instagramable!

We were shown to our table, fitted out with Christmas crackers, and were offered mulled wine or prosecco to get us in the festive mood. The Christmas menu at the Cosy Club includes 3 courses for £27.95 per person, starting from 22nd November until 24th December.

The Christmas feast began with a sharing platter of smoked salmon blinis, pigs in blankets, halloumi and sweetcorn bites, and baked camembert. There was also mushroom and chestnut pate and pork belly bites. A sharing platter created a sociable way to begin the evening, chatting about the different ingredients and flavours. In particular I favoured the mushroom pate and halloumi bites.

For main course there was a variety of options to choose from including a turkey and smoked bacon pie, slow roasted pork belly and confit duck leg. There was also a pan-fried sea bass, beetroot, carrot and parsnip pie and halloumi and winter vegetable wellington. I was pleased to find veggie, vegan and pescatarian options available, especially on a Christmas menu where you usually just see a nut roast!

I opted for the halloumi and winter vegetable pie with creamy mash, roasted maple-glazed carrots and parsnips, sprouts, sage and chestnut butter and gravy. The pie was absolutely delicious, and when combined with the mash and rich gravy it all simply melted in the mouth. The flavours reminded me of Christmas and the dish was comfort food at its best.

Although I was already pretty full, I couldn’t resist a pudding! I somehow misread the menu and picked the chocolate brownie and cinder toffee trifle. I shouldn’t eat cream so I passed this over to my very understanding partner and he gave me his chocolate and orange torte. There was also traditional Christmas pudding, limoncello cheesecake and an English cheese selection to pick from. The chocolate torte was an indulgent delight with a tang of orange and fruity kick from the raspberry sauce.

We all had a fantastic evening at the Cosy Club. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe, but is fancy enough to enjoy getting dressed up for the occasion. The staff were fantastic, incredibly friendly and attentive all evening. I would definitely recommend it as a place to get together with your pals for a friend-mas dinner or a catch up with family before the big day.

The menu starts on 22nd November, but you can book your tables now. To find out more about the Christmas at the Cosy Club, click here.
