Founded by Sherry Storer, Salad Days offers a range of vintage treasures, specifically chosen for those who love to know the story behind each item. Sherry recently took over a barn at the Nutshells Tearoom where she has been able to grow the business. Now she can showcase her own interior finds, as well as provide a space where other local businesses, makers and crafters can stock their pieces.
At the shop you will find a collection of gifts, homewares, women’s fashion and accessories. Handmade prints, crafts, children’s toys, jewellery and much more! Every item has either been created or handpicked by talented local artisans.
I recently went along to visit Sherry and some of the makers as they decorated the shop ready for Christmas. As a big supporter of small businesses, I was impressed and inspired by the number of different enterprises that have been given the opportunity to stock their festive goods in the shop.
Here are a few of my favourite gift ideas to share with you…
Everyone deserves a little pamper at Christmas time! Indulge someone you love with these gift sets from Neal’s Yard.
And the same goes for the man in your life! These soaps and bath products are perfect for country dwellers after a day outdoors.
These handcrafted wooden jigsaws are a classic children’s toy that could be passed down for generations.
For the new home owners
These unique ceramics by Lois Thirkettle will make lovely gifts for every home. Lois uses earthstone original and special fleck clay and focuses on three glazes – a beautiful blue, duck egg and matt white.
The bright, colourful prints by Foxcat will liven up any home. There are many different designs to choose, from animals to fruit and plants, all with a burst of colour on the background.
Tracey creates stunning decoupage coasters, vases and giftware with floral and animal patterns. Her dried flower bouquets are a fantastic alternative to real flowers to take to friends and family at Christmas.
For the vintage lovers
Sherry has a selection of one-of-a-kind vintage items that retro lovers and collectors would be overjoyed to open at Christmas time. These special silver items could be the perfect gift for the vintage enthusiast in your life.
If you know someone who loves retro items or upcycled creations, then you’ll want to check out the Junk to Funk section of the store. This tennis box has been made into a table with storage and has been snapped up since I visited the store – you’ll want to get down their quickly to check out the new creations!
Beautiful baubles that can be hung on the tree year after year.
For the fashionista
Kitty & Em, based in Hadleigh, have a selection of clothes and accessories that you can pick up for the stylish lady in your life. These purses and bags are super soft and luxurious for a thoughtful gift.
For the busy person in your life
Gillian Clarke, the maker behind Living Happy and Creating Happy, helps busy, stressed out women to simplify their everyday lives. Gillian offers a mind-health and wellbeing consultancy business, alongside creating handcrafted items. All of her gifts project positivity and hope, ideal for someone who may be struggling this Christmas. Remind someone how amazing they are this year.
For the dog lover
Dog lovers will fall in love with these cuties!
For the crafter
Mother and daughter team, Laura and Jane, create bags, hairbands and pouches in all kinds of fabrics. They also produce jewellery and craft kits that crafters will love to make at home. The Macramé tree kit is a fantastic introduction to the skill.
For the gardener
Hydroponic herb kits are made by hand using recycled bottles and all parts of the kit are either recycled, recyclable or biodegradable. These herb kits are a perfect gift for those with no garden, or those who are interested in trying new ways to grow things. There’s no need for soil – everything is provided in the kit. A very unique and innovative present idea!
Street Forge provides tuition and guidance for adults with disabilities to create woodcrafts, as well as have the opportunity to try arts and crafts, cookery and gardening. The bird boxes are made to RSPB specification with sustainable wood.
For the tricky person to buy for
Let them pick a gift for themselves – we’re sure they’ll find something they love at Salad Days Interiors!
