Meet Suffolk’s new fashion label My Overalls [AD]

Utility clothing has undoubtedly been a huge trend for women during the last couple of seasons. We’ve seen boiler suits, dungarees, overalls and cargo pants all back in fashion. And if you love this look then you need to know about new local company My Overalls!

I first met the founder of My Overalls Vivienne Hegarty and her husband Kevin on a business workshop in Ipswich and we kept in touch about their exciting new venture. Vivienne came up with idea for the brand when she was renovating her Victorian property and during this time her everyday wardrobe became a pair of white bib and brace overalls, which she loved wearing because of their versatility and comfort.

After accidentally dyeing her overalls pink in the wash, Vivienne had a lightbulb moment and My Overalls was born. Vivienne wanted to create a unique, chic and flattering overall for women, a timeless classic with a difference.

It was important that the design was for the fashion conscious and the result is a luxury, elegant product made with super soft material and high-quality finishes.

I met up with Vivienne and Kevin again recently and it was so nice to see the development of her idea as a finished product.

The pair have worked incredibly hard to ensure the design of the overalls are authentic, yet comfortable and functional. The look of the overalls is traditional, yet the material is luxurious. The fabric is a far cry from the coarse and scratchy cloth I remember from my grandad and dad’s farming overalls. The design has been cleverly updated for the modern world.

The garments are manufactured in a factory in Manchester, which has been cutting cloth and making premium clothing for over 100 years. Many of us are considering how our purchases impact the world, so to know that the overalls are made in the UK is a fantastic selling point for the company.

The style of the overalls feature a very unique handy front pocket. This was something that really caught my attention when Vivienne gave me a sneak peek a couple of weeks ago. This framed zipped pouch pocket allows you the freedom to carry everything you need, without having to take a bag!

I immediately thought this would be so helpful during festivals. Yes, I’m already picturing myself wearing this to Latitude! You can pop all your valuables in the zipped pocket and have your hands free to dance and carry a pint – it’s a safer version of a bum-bag!

It would also be useful when travelling, or simply going out to walk the dog. Just pop in your phone, keys and a bit of cash and you’re away.

My Overalls launches on the 1st May. There will be three colour ways initially – navy, stone and olive. And there will also be a special limited-edition navy overall with stunning Liberty print lining.
