Review: New Saturday brunch menu at The Unruly Pig

Last week we were invited to the launch of the brand new Saturday brunch menu at The Unruly Pig.
It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it, right?
It was our first trip to The Unruly Pig and we were both very excited as we’d heard great things (The Unruly Pig won Best Restaurant in the EADT Suffolk Food and Drink Awards 2018).
We were welcomed in to the bustling restaurant and at 10:30am it already had a fantastic atmosphere – everyone was ready to start the weekend in style!
We ordered hot drinks to start with; I had a fresh mint tea and my partner Guy had a coffee whilst we perused the menu.
The new brunch menu starts on the 6th April and has the choice of three courses! You could really go all out with this menu, or just come along for light bite, the choice is yours!
I was also really pleased to see that there was a veggie and vegan menu too. I eat veggie about 80% of the time so this was a big tick for me. There’s a great mix of healthy and indulgent options on the menu too.
I chose the Pump Street sourdough toast with raw cultured butter and jam to start, and Guy picked vanilla porridge oats, which he said had the perfect balance of vanilla and cinnamon.
From the Eggs & Mains part of the menu Guy chose the duck hash with fried duck egg. He was also tempted by the crab rarebit and the fully piggy, so we’ll definitely have to go back to try these. He said the duck hash was very flavoursome but not overly intense for brunch. It was served with a perfectly cooked egg, and all the different flavours complimented each other very nicely.
I went for the wild mushroom rarebit that was on the veggie and vegan menu. It was absolutely delicious, super cheesy and decadent – exactly what you need to start the weekend!
Even though we were both very full, we couldn’t resist trying a sweet to finish. As soon as we looked at the menu Guy had clocked the waffles.
I’d never tried bacon and maple syrup waffles (I know, I know!) so now was my chance. I just wasn’t sure how bacon would go with a sweet flavour but, wow, I didn’t know what I was missing!
The waffle was light and fluffy. The bacon crispy and the syrup delightfully sweet. I’m already counting the days until we can go back for more!
