A friend revealed the other day that he’d never been to Ipswich…even though he’d lived in Suffolk for the majority of his life.

His revelation got me thinking, there are definitely some places in Suffolk that I haven’t visited, even though I’ve lived here for practically my whole life (if you don’t count a very brief stint in Nottingham and uni in Southampton!).

Suffolk is such a big county that even for us locals there’s a lot to see. From the coast at Lowestoft to the races at Newmarket, there’s so much in between to be discovered.

Many tourists flock to the well known spots of Aldeburgh or Southwold, which I was very lucky to live so close to growing up, but there’s also the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds, the nature reserve at Minsmere and pretty market towns like Halesworth and Bungay, and so much more.

So, here are 5 places I’ve never been in Suffolk and why I’m planning to make 2018 the year I go:

1. Pin Mill

I’ve been meaning to visit Pin Mill for ages. It just looks beautiful, plus the attraction of a pint and pub lunch at the Butt and Oyster is pretty darn appealing too (go and check out the menu, it has literally made my mouth water!).

2. Sutton Hoo

I know, I can’t believe I haven’t been to Sutton Hoo, one of the most historic sites in Suffolk. Having said that, I may have gone on a school trip when I was in Primary School, but I have no recollection of it…

3. Hadleigh

I’ve heard some great things about the indie shops in Hadleigh so I really want to pop over soon – especially to go to Tatty Broyds for a bit of retail therapy. Apparently this town has 250 listed buildings, sounds ideal for Instagram pics!

4. Rendlesham Forest

I’ve driven past the forest numerous times but never gone in, probably because I’m (more than) slightly freaked out by the UFO stories! However, my partner loves a good alien story, so we’re planning a walk and to go on the UFO trail, as long as it’s in broad daylight!!

5. Haverhill

I may have been here delivering magazines at one time, but I’ve never spent any time in the town. I couldn’t find much on the internet to suggest what to do when visiting, so if you have any gems let me know!
