What to do in Suffolk this bank holiday
I know it’s only Monday, but it’s never too early to start planning the bank holiday weekend in my opinion!
If you’re looking for things to do, here are a few things happening in Suffolk this weekend:
- Ivy Joan Whitsun Fair Market
May 28-29
Ivy Joan is a great online boutique selling retro interiors and gorgeous garments. Run by a local lass, Hayley, I met her a couple of years ago when she was setting up her online store and fell in love with all the amazing products.
This weekend she is hosting a market at the Unitarian Meeting House in Bury St Edmunds with some other local businesses. You’ll find illustrators, chocolate companies, children’s clothes, handmade candles and much more at this market that will showcase the very best local producers and makers.
2. Orwell River Walk with Jimmy’s Farm
May 27
The Suffolk Walking Festival goes on between May 13 and June 4 and this Saturday you can join one of the many events around the county. This walk starts at Jimmy’s Farm, making it ideal for kids. Taking in the farmland and beautiful views over the Orwell, you can return to the farm for a hearty lunch and to see the animals.
3. LeeStock Festival
May 28-29
Set in the grounds of Melford Hall in Long Melford, LeeStock was set up in memory of Lee Dunford who sadly passed away from Hodgkins Lymphoma. The money raised goes towards the Willow Foundation that organises special days for seriously ill young adults, a charity that arranged for Lee to record with his band in London.
This year the line up includes Newton Faulkner, Tinchy Stryder, Toploader, Goldie Lookin’ Chain and Wheatus – a brilliant line up, I think, for a small festival! I saw Netwon Faulkner a few years ago at Latitude and he was absolutely amazing, such a brilliant festival act.
It’s meant to be great weather this weekend, so what could be better than sitting in the sunshine listening to great music.
4. Ipswich 5k Colour Dash
May 28
For those that love do something fitness related during a weekend, the 5k colour dash is a messy, fun run that raises funds for the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice.
Walk or jog the 5k, it’s up to you! Registration starts at £10 for a child aged 5-15 and £20 for an adult aged 16+.
5. Spring Plant Fair & Artisan Helmingham Hall
May 28
Set in the stunning grounds of Helmingham Hall, the Spring Plant Fair has many different zones including garden, conservation and artisan areas. There will also be a marquee with plant experts, activities for the kids and a range of food stalls.
